Clancy strengthens ESG team with two senior hires

Clancy has made two senior appointments to its ESG team to support its ambitions to deliver smarter, greener infrastructure.

Mike de Silva joins as head of sustainability and Lorna Mellings as head of environment, working as part of Clancy’s strategic team to meet the business’ commitments around net zero, environmental management and social value.

De Silva will lead the sustainability strategy across Clancy as it maintains momentum in harnessing green technology as part of its long-term business plan, while supporting customer ambitions.  A key priority for his role will be securing the business’s ongoing reduction of its operational emissions and alignment with net zero goals. In addition to this key role in carbon management, he will be heading up the business’s delivery of social value across its projects and frameworks within energy and water.

Previously at Bechtel, having also worked at Transport for London and Davis Langdon, de Silva (pictured above, left) brings 30 years of experience in environmental best practice and developing social value programmes, including work across high-profile projects such as HS1, HS2 and Crossrail, in the UK and internationally.

In her new role, Mellings (pictured above, right) will drive the business’s work to reduce its waste, increase environmental awareness and protect habitats. In line with its environmental targets, Clancy has been investing heavily in developing the right skills and green technology to reduce its impact. She joins the business with 16 years of environmental management experience across organisations including Crossrail Limited, Aspire Defence and Carillion plc.  She is also a long-standing member on the Institution of Civil Engineers’ resource management engineering panel.

Matt Cannon, chief executive of Clancy, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Lorna and Mike as we continue to invest in reducing our impact on the environment, preserving and enhancing biodiversity, protecting habitats and providing social value through our work with both our internal and external stakeholders.

“The last year has seen us maintain momentum and investment to support a more sustainable industry. We’ve reduced our energy consumption and CO2 emissions through more effective planning and resourcing, and invested £0.5m in state-of-the-art electric plant and vehicles. Our recent adoption of the National Social Value Measurement Framework is also ensuring that we can measure our wider impact on society – and underpins our commitment to making lives better for growing families. Lorna and Mike’s expertise will be invaluable as we continue to drive this agenda forward.”
