Interserve’s UK construction managing director Gordon Kew will leave the company next month as part of an ongoing major restructuring process.

Kew leaves the post after less than two years and will be replaced by George Franks who runs the firm’s international construction business. It’s all part of a move to merge the UK and international construction divisions which attempts to bring about more savings to the company.

Franks who is set to head up the new division has been with Interserve for 34 years and has a wealth of experience in the firm’s domestic and international construction businesses.

Commenting on the changes, chief executive officer, Debbie White said: “These changes support our vision for a simpler, more efficient and more effective Interserve, where people are empowered to make things happen within a clear and strong leadership structure. Bringing our UK and International construction and support services businesses together will help us to reduce complexity, support the transfer of people and skills and develop a clear and consistent value propositions for customers wherever they are in the world.”

Earlier this month, the multinational support services and construction giant revealed a £6m pre-tax loss for the first six months of the year as it continues its recovery plan. The company posted the loss from a profit of £24.9m last year with sales down from £1.64bn to £1.48bn for the six months to the end of June, while operating profit fell 30% to £40.1m.

Interserve is one of the world’s largest private contractors, employing close to 80,000 people around the world. The company has been attempting to raise funds and sell some of its operations since it issued a profit warning in October. The restructuring has seen bosses focus on government and defence, the private sector, communities and citizen service contracts.

Interserve’s international FM business will be joining its UK support services division from 3 September.
