WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff to change name to WSP

In a not wholly unexpected move, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has announced that it is to change its name to WSP in May 2017.

The change of name reflects the consultancy’s recent growth to around 36,700 people globally with 7,100 based in the UK and the new name will cover more than 85 small and mid-sized to large companies that have previously come together.

The new name will also include Mouchel Consulting, acquired in October 2016, which will also become WSP in July when it is fully integrated with the wider business. The names currently used by the firm on the Toronto Stock Exchange will remain unchanged (WSP Global Inc. (TSX: WSP)).

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff and Mouchel Consulting currently provide technical expertise in the built and natural environment across the public and private sectors. The combined business has been involved in many high-profile UK projects including the Shard, Crossrail, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham, the re-development of London Bridge Station, Manchester Metrolink and the London Olympic and Paralympic Route Network. Outside of the UK, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has provided the engineering for New York’s One World Trade Centre and Istanbul’s Eurasia Tunnel.

Mark Naysmith, WSP’s UK CEO, said: “WSP is a successful story of global growth. We have decided to change our name after speaking to our people and our clients extensively. Our conversations with clients showed they have a genuine curiosity about us and the services we provide. For our 7,100 people in the UK, being WSP will allow us to focus on our shared future, combined talent and common vision as one of the country’s fastest growing engineering professional services consultancies.

“From the Shard to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Crossrail and HS2 to the Smart M1 Motorway, and Exeter’s supercomputer to Glasgow’s Athlete’s Village, we are proud of the contribution we make to societies throughout the UK. As part of a 36,700 strong global consultancy, we will continue to deliver for all our clients the same legacy: great places for people to live, travel, work and enjoy.”
