Waterman Group has strengthened its transportation planning and traffic engineering capability in the Midlands, north and Scotland with the appointment of Darren McCrohan as technical director in the firm’s Manchester office.

McCrohan joins Waterman from Mott MacDonald where he was a technical specialist responsible for directing and delivering key projects. He was previously with AECOM where he was a regional director of their north-west traffic engineering business. 

A chartered engineer with more than 20 years’ transportation experience, McCrohan has worked extensively across traffic and highways, planning and development disciplines, from early concept identification through to major scheme delivery. He has a broad technical background and considerable local government and public-sector framework experience.  

His project highlights include roles as traffic lead for the major Metrolink Light Rail Phase 3B Route Extension to the east of Manchester; advising New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority on their design development of award-winning Bus Rapid Transit routes; helping establish and embed the role of traffic manager with Transport for Greater Manchester; and assisting them in securing major investment in public transport priority through initiatives such as Cross City Bus.
