WSP has strengthened its transport and infrastructure team with two new senior appointments that are set to head up the businesses growing local government and digital opportunities.

David Stephens, formerly with Halcrow and CH2M, has joined WSP as head of local government which is part of WSP’s transport and infrastructure strategic business unit. 

Stephens has been brought in boost WSP’s effort in this key market and further develop the £100m worth of local government work WSP already does across the UK. With 29 years in the industry, Stephens has worked on some of the UK’s biggest projects and was previously the development director for the Europe state and local government business at CH2M.

Commenting on his new role, Stephens said: “After 14 great years with Halcrow and CH2M the next move was always going to be a big decision. Combined with the opportunity to develop a business focused on supporting our local government clients; it was WSP’s forward-looking culture that got me really excited.”

Also joining WSP’s transport and infrastructure team is Adrian Malone, who has been appointed as head of digital project delivery and BIM. Malone, who previously spent a decade with Atkins where he took on numerous roles including group head of knowledge management and collaboration, will build on WSP’s core BIM capability to help clients grasp the opportunities of digital technology.

Malone said: “BIM and digital are all about the way we collaborate by using digital technology to create opportunity and to design a better future. WSP has a strong culture of collaboration and future ready thinking. Connecting these with BIM and digital creates a powerful platform to tackle the complex challenges facing our infrastructure clients.”
