Ramboll relocates second-largest UK office to sustainable Southampton building

Ramboll, has relocated its second-largest UK office and become the first tenant to move into the sustainably refurbished Twenty3 Brunswick Place in Southampton.

Ramboll’s global strategy to be ‘The Partner for Sustainable Change’ and its climate commitments meant that the building’s first-rate sustainability credentials were a crucial factor in the selection of the new office.

Twenty3 is set to achieve BREEAM Excellent status across both the new build and refurbishment and an EPC A rating, while its city-centre location with its public transport links, supports low-carbon commuting.

The company says the environmentally conscious refurbishment and fit out have been carefully considered, reusing and repurposing equipment from Ramboll’s previous office as much as possible and ensuring that additional furniture was chosen for its durability.

Additional elements, such as a living wall planted into cassettes made in the UK from recycled plastic, the use of peat-free media across all office planting, and posters printed on plastic recovered from the ocean, further signal Ramboll’s commitment to sustainability.

Employee wellbeing was a central focus for the design. The new office provides a range of different work areas, including sit-stand desks, huddle rooms, work pods, collaboration zones and independent focus bays to meet the needs of employees.

The company says the result is an inspiring and flexible space that caters to individuals and teams, whatever their task, ability, or preferred style of working. Employees are encouraged to move around these areas throughout the day, depending on their needs, while the décor offers a nod to Ramboll’s Nordic heritage with its blend of natural materials, calming colour palette and nature-inspired images.

Philippa Spence, UK managing director, Ramboll, said: “Our new office has been intentionally selected and designed to support our ambitions around reducing the carbon impact of our operations. It was also important that we created an environment that promotes collaboration, flexibility, and the mental wellbeing of our employees.

“We are incredibly proud of the bar we are setting and I cannot wait to see the relationships we’ll develop, the ideas we’ll share and the challenges we’ll solve within this inspiring new space”.
