World’s engineers assemble in Berlin for FIDIC conference

Consultancy and engineering professionals from across the globe are gathering in Berlin over the next four days for the annual FIDIC International Infrastructure conference.

Around 800 leaders from some of the world’s most successful and influential engineering companies are gathering in one of Germany’s most vibrant cities to discuss the future challenges facing their industry and to debate the key infrastructure issues and opportunities facing the planet.

Amongst a range of issues being discussed at the conference, FIDIC delegates in Berlin will look at how the cities of today and tomorrow will be influenced by new technology and the growing trend for digitalisation. Future trends in urban transportation will also be examined and an array of global infrastructure leaders will speak about how they see current and future industry changes.

FIDIC represents member associations from 102 countries that employ 1.1 million engineering professionals. The conference delegates’ deliberations in Berlin will help to shape the approach to infrastructure development in a changing and rapidly evolving business and industry landscape and highlight the challenges and opportunities facing a vital industry sector.

Speaking ahead of the conference, FIDIC president Alain Bentéjac said: “The practical solutions to many of the world’s challenges are very often in the hands of engineers so we have a lot of things to contribute and discus at this conference.

“It is vitally important for our industry to have a stronger organisation at a global level because the world is becoming more and more international and I think it is important to have a strong voice. The role of FIDIC in providing that voice and raising the profile and reputation of the industry has never been more important. I am really looking forward to the deliberations, discussion at this conference and the opportunity to share knowledge and ideas with consulting engineering professionals from across the globe.”

The conference theme, Mobility and Smart Infrastructure, signals a focus on the smart city-smart infrastructure technology agenda. Against a background of new and emerging technologies directly impacting public and private transport, healthcare, energy, retail, tourism and many other industries, the conference will examine the impact that these developments are having on infrastructure and today’s modern cities.

Delegates at FIDIC Berlin 2018 will also have the opportunity to find out how the consultancy and engineering industry is rising to key challenges and exploring new ways to partner with clients, investors and constructors.
