What makes us special

Our clients are at the heart of our Practice. For over fifty years we have supported them in the UK and across Europe in delivering major infrastructure and buildings projects with a combination of technical excellence and commercial awareness. We are also consistently recognised as a good employer, winning accolades from The Times Top 100 Best Companies, ACE / NCE and Building magazines. We encourage and support lifelong and continuous technical learning throughout the Practice, from offering apprenticeships, and graduate positions (supported by our two-year Development Programme) to an in-house Management Development Programme accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, as well as sponsoring many individuals each year through higher education. Alongside this we actively encourage and support employees to achieve Chartered status in their relevant discipline and throughout the Practice we support a wide range of professional schemes. In 2015, to mark our 50th anniversary, we launched the Peter Brett Foundation to channel our ambition to develop the next generation of engineers, scientists, planners and economists. The Peter Brett Foundation aims to inspire, inform and prepare young people for careers in planning, design and delivery of development and infrastructure projects in the built and natural environment.

Corporate social responsibility

We are very proactive across the communities we operate within and have many CSR initiatives. We engage with local schools and universities to bring real-life creativity to the teaching of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and other subjects relevant to careers in the built and natural environment. As part of this initiative we sponsor and support the curriculum within the Reading University Technical College – one of the first UTCs in the UK and recently awarded ‘Outstanding’ status by Ofsted. We have established a STEM ambassador network across the Practice to promote STEM subjects in schools and we also run an internal Young Consultants’ Forum to encourage talent. We also provide support for regular sports and social events including sponsoring our staff to participate in marathons, charity runs and cycle rides raising money for charity as well as more local community initiatives such as the local Toys and Teens appeal at Christmas.

Green credentials

PBA has supported its clients in delivering environmentally sustainable projects for decades. It also works year on year to reduce its carbon footprint through astute travel planning investments, office design for reduced energy consumption and inter-office work sharing as well as through intelligent management of its supply chain for paper, goods and other services. PBA always strives to use local suppliers and to minimise unnecessary travel.

Inclusion and diversity

We are committed to ensuring inclusion and diversity throughout everything we do including recruitment, selection, learning or development. No matter what touch-point people have with PBA, this will always be carried out fairly and professionally. We train our staff to identify potential hidden bias and to communicate for inclusivity.
