A revolution for driving change is about to “engulf” the infrastructure and built environment sector, according to KPMG partner Richard Threlfall, heralding a younger, more diverse and ambitious industry.

This “spirit of activism to drive changes” will, he says, see technology such as Building Information Modelling increasingly embraced alongside offsite and modular construction, greener and more sustainable thinking and information technology that will unite the supply chain.

• The need for infrastructure investment is understood; 
• the value of infrastructure is better appreciated than it has been for many years; 
• the general economic uplift is increasing demand; 
• there is a pipeline of work and; 
• there is a spirit of activism to drive changes.

This is a spirit of activism to drive changes is just one of Threlfall’s five key reasons to feel good about the prospects in UK infrastructure right now, as set out in the firm’s newly published Focus digital app for infrastructure building and construction.

“The construction industry is a very exciting place to be at the moment,” says Threlfall. 

“Wherever I go, what really strikes me about the industry is the universal desire for change and the desire to see that change happen as rapidly as possible,” he adds. “My spirit of optimism about this industry is driven by this desire.”
